The Reckless Philosophers visit the Dolphins

Welp, it recently came to our attention that the smartest mammals on the planet apart from us primates have managed to get their selves lost.

Apparently about 2 and a half weeks ago a pod of 10-15 dolphins have found their way up the Navasink river here in sunny NJ. Well, we decided to visit our oft brilliant but apparently misguided intelligent mammalian friends.

If you want to do the same they are hanging out in Sea Bright NJ, right near McLunes restaurant.

Welp, Scorpio and Myself decided to Go and see them. Since its the summer we had to bring along his junior philosopher  that I hear by dub “TnA”.

After a longish drive through traffic, and a few attempts at missing the crowd by driving out side streets we finally decided to join the masses at McLunes, and see the dolphins.

Well, we pulled up right next to the NBC news crew and I could almost see Scorpio salivating over their gear. I hobbled out there on my crutches dropped them on the ground and sat on the edge of the water dangling my feet over the water and busted out the camera. The on site correspondent for NBC was kinda hot too. Forgive the bad pic, I was trying to be a little covert.

For a while we saw nothing.

Great I thought, this whole thing is gonna be a bust and I could just have hung out at the house sleeping or getting sun. As the crowd grew perhaps the dolphins decided we were just as interesting and they came out to see and be seen by the monkeys on land.

I was surprised how close these wild dolphins would come to the spectators. There were numerous kayaks and boats and the dolphins would swim around relatively near them. Nearer even than the spectators were allowed to be by law.

Yes, NJ has stated that anyone messing with the dolphins could be subject to a $25,000 fine. There were a lot of spectators on land as could be expected but there were also a lot in the water. I kinda wished I had a kayak because that just would have been neat $25,000 fine not withstanding.

Just for additional kicks, I ended up taking some video because it was a pain to actually catch them on camera, so enjoy the video below.
