Asus EEE 4g Surf Up and Down

Here's a quick update showing how fast my EEE pc laptop boots up and shuts down. I didn't time it but its pretty damned fast compared to my full size machines. I attribute its quickness to the solid state drive that has virtually no seek time in the boot up process and the stripped version of Windows its running.

The OS is called Windows FLP and its a tiny fast distribution of Windows XP designed to run on windows 98 class pc's. That being said the 900mhx processor storms through an OS designed to be run on a 233mhz machine.

No bad at all. I tried it against my dual-core Athlon 64 1.8Gz laptop and your eee was halfway thru shutdown by time mine got to the desktop. I was handicapped though - I had to log in and I have Vista. My Commadore 64 could put you in your place though

No doubt. Those were instant on I miss those days.

I think I mentioned this last night, but the 2 limitations on FLP are no task manager (so you'll need to find a aftermarket one), and no dial up networking, so you may have issues installing it to your Viao, if only because it has that nifty cellular dial up thingy.

Oh, thats only if you have to use dial up networking with it. If you have a nifty app for it you should be golden.
